Lantern
The Lantern goes in its own dedicated slot, which is what separates it from every other tool you carry. The Hoe, the Axe and the Fishing Rod all fight over the right hand. The Lantern does not. Equip it once and it stays lit while you swing a sword, till a plot or cast a line. It keeps a circle of light around you after dark. Night in this game is not decorative. Once the light drops you lose the ability to read the ground around you, and gathering nodes, mob approaches and the edge of a path all become guesswork. The Lantern gives that back. 350 Tria, sold by Arlette and nowhere else. Leaf and Rendall carry the farming line but not this. Stock sits at 1 unit, which means the shelf empties fast and you may need a second trip. Selling it back returns 13 Tria. Standard for tools at this price point, and irrelevant, because nobody sells a Lantern. It is one of the few purchases at 350 Tria that never stops being useful. Compared with the Harvest Basket at the same price, the Lantern is the better first buy for most players. The basket only matters while you are standing on a plot. The Lantern matters every night, everywhere, regardless of what you are doing. A player who fishes, farms, fights and gathers gets value from it in all four activities. It runs on oil in name only. There is no fuel to refill and no upkeep cost, so the 350 Tria is the entire expense. The Lantern carries no level or class restriction and needs nothing unlocked. Buy it early. The argument for waiting applies to tools tied to one profession, where you want the plot earning before you spend. Light is not a profession. The first time you get caught out at night without one, chasing a Spore Deer or walking back from Arlette, the 350 Tria stops looking like a decision worth delaying.
