Driftwood Maul
Attack Speed -0.08x is the number to look at first. Driftwood Maul swings slower than anything else Breda sells at this tier, and P.ATK +8 is not enough to make up for it. The rest reads reasonably: Ignore DEF +8%, Max MP +12, MP regeneration at +1.0 per second, VIT 12 required, 1750 Tria to buy. On paper it looks like a step up from Wooden Club at 1050 Tria and P.ATK +5. Run it against Iron Mace and the case collapses. That weapon costs the same 1750 Tria, needs VIT 15, gives P.ATK +11, the same Ignore DEF +8%, more mana, no speed penalty at all, and it leaves your off hand free for a shield. Driftwood Maul is a worse weapon at an identical price, and the only thing it has going for it is the three-point lower requirement. That gap between VIT 12 and VIT 15 is the entire reason to own one. If you are stuck in it and Wooden Club is no longer cutting through anything, the maul is what you have. Otherwise, save the Tria. Two-handed, which combined with the speed penalty means slow swings and no shield. For a VIT build that is a strange combination, since the whole point of investing in vitality is surviving hits you were going to take anyway. Breda pays 65 Tria to take it back. No mob drops it. A big curved maul, flowers and all, heavy and slow and prettier than what it hits. Nothing about the description oversells it. Driftwood Maul needs nothing unlocked beyond VIT 12. The practical advice: stay on Wooden Club until VIT 15 and buy Iron Mace directly. Spending 1750 Tria here means spending another 1750 shortly afterwards, and 3500 Tria buys a Cow or most of an Explorer Rucksack instead.
