DEF +3 and MDEF +1 are small numbers, and that is normal for this slot. Gloves contribute less raw defence than any other piece. What they do carry is Attack Speed +0.02x and Cast Speed +0.02x, and speed modifiers matter regardless of build. Those speed values are the lowest of the three glove options Breda stocks. Dustwalker Gloves manage +0.05x on both at INT 12, and Trailblazer Gloves +0.03x at DEX 12. Kettle Mitts trade that away for the higher defence, which fits a tank and shortchanges everyone else. The mitts arrive Unidentified, so what you buy is not the whole item. Identifying them reveals additional properties, and the stat block on the shelf is a floor rather than a full picture. Tin Tortoise drops them at 7.74%, roughly one per thirteen kills. Kettle Beetle also drops them at 0.18%, one in 555, which is not worth chasing. Breda buys them back at 26 Tria. Kettle Mitts need nothing unlocked beyond VIT 12. At 700 Tria this is the cheapest equipment slot to fill and the easiest purchase to justify. Even DEF +3 is better than an empty slot, and the attack speed applies to every swing you make for the rest of the character. Buy them as soon as you clear VIT 12. A Defender pairing these with Kettle Crown at the same requirement covers two slots for 1750 Tria total, which is less than a single chest piece costs.
