Dustwalker Boots
Soft-soled boots worn thin, quick on your feet and good for leaving. Move Speed +1.4 is the fastest footwear Breda sells, and for a caster that is the whole point. DEF +3 and MDEF +4 are modest, though the magic defence is the highest on any boots he stocks. Kettle Stompers offer DEF +8 with MDEF +2, so the two are almost mirror images of each other. Dustwalker Boots protect against spells and let you outrun the things you cannot fight. The movement bonus does real work in a cloth setup. Dustwalker Vest, Hood and Pants each cost -0.3, coming to -0.9 across three slots. These boots more than cancel that, leaving a caster in full cloth actually faster than they started. No other armour line manages that. They arrive Unidentified. The stat block on the shelf is a floor, and identifying them reveals more. Tin Tortoise drops them at 7.74%, around one per thirteen kills, and Spore Deer at 0.25%, one in 400. At 700 Tria the farm is optional, though the tortoise rate is friendly enough that it costs little to try. Breda buys them back at 26 Tria. Dustwalker Boots need nothing unlocked beyond INT 15. INT 15 is when Caged Prism and Dustwalker Pants also become available, and at 700 Tria the boots are the cheapest of the three by 350 Tria. That makes them the obvious first purchase at the level. For an Enchanter who kites, this is arguably the most valuable slot in the entire cloth set. Staying out of melee range prevents more damage than MDEF +4 ever absorbs, and +1.4 movement is what keeps you there.
