The August 5 update added greenhouses to The Portal, but the line worth reading twice sits further down the patch notes. Every player at Level 20 gets a free Ultimate Skillbook, and that quietly softens the harshest decision in the game.
Greenhouses are craftable at the Workbench
You can now build a greenhouse at the Workbench and place it on your farm. Each plot holds one, and that cap is hard. Premium Pass owners get a second slot on top.
The developers posted a clarification later the same day, and it matters if you are on the fence about the pass. The +1 greenhouse slot from the Season 1 Premium Pass is permanent. Once you unlock it, you keep both slots forever, even after Season 1 ends. It is also exclusive to Season 1, so future passes will not offer it again.
Put plainly: skip Season 1 and that second slot is gone for good. Most seasonal rewards in Roblox games are cosmetic, this one is a permanent capacity upgrade.

A free Ultimate Skillbook for every Level 20 account
Changing jobs in The Portal wipes the moves you learned, including the class attacks you spent hours unlocking. Plenty of players found that out the hard way.
The compensation covers everyone who has reached Level 20, including accounts that were already there before the patch. The stated goal is that you end up holding one Ultimate and one Basic class skill as a safety net.
There is a second change here that traders should notice. The Ultimate Skillbook from the Goblin Claw Machine is now tradeable instead of untradeable. With a large batch of free books hitting accounts at the same time, expect the market price to sit low for a while. If you were planning to sell one, waiting a couple of weeks is probably the better call.
Battle Pass adjustments
The Boss Quest was removed from the Battle Pass quest pool. Its EXP moved over to the Mini Boss Quest instead.
You can now buy +1 Battle Pass level for 15 Robux, which is worth 3,000 EXP.

Moving the EXP to the Mini Boss Quest is the friendlier change of the two. Boss runs needed a party, mini bosses do not, so solo players stop falling behind on pass progress.
Fixes in this patch
Soil issues resolved.
Party and Solo damage rankings (Top 1, Top 2, Top 3) now track correctly for quests and the Codex. If those objectives refused to complete for you, retry them.
Players no longer get stuck while swimming.
Placing two doors no longer breaks the second one.
All fish and food assets were reworked with better visuals and lighter in-game performance.
New macro rules
This one has caught people out already. Macros for woodcutting and mining are allowed. Auto-combat and auto-mob macros are not, and using them counts as a rule violation. Additional rules about auto-farming monsters went into the homestead law channel on the same day.
Gathering macros being fine is not blanket permission. The moment your macro swings at something that fights back, you are breaking the rules.
Fish may lose value soon
The team is considering a cut to fish selling prices. Their reasoning is that fish were meant to feed the consumable system, not to serve as a main gold income.
Nothing has changed yet and they asked for player feedback first. Still, if your gold strategy runs on stockpiled fish, selling now costs you nothing and protects you if the nerf lands.

Lost greenhouses are still unresolved
Several players reported greenhouses disappearing. The developers looked into it but cannot reproduce the bug consistently, so they are not compensating individual cases yet. They did say they will compensate affected players once someone provides reliable evidence or reproduction steps.
If it happens to you, record it. A clip showing the greenhouse before and after is worth more than a written report here.
Where the game is heading
The team also addressed the flood of suggestions directly. The Portal is their first game, they know it is early, and they will not implement everything players ask for. On the recurring request for a class that solos all content, the answer was a clear no. Every class is meant to keep distinct strengths and weaknesses, and balance passes will continue.
Worth knowing before you commit to a build: buffs and nerfs are expected, not exceptional.
What to do this week
Push to Level 20 if you are close. The Ultimate Skillbook is the single most valuable thing in this patch.
Craft a greenhouse before you expand anything else on your plot. One per plot means planning matters.
Retry any damage-ranking quests that were stuck in your Codex.
Check whether any macro you run touches combat.
New rewards also arrive through redeem codes whenever the game hits a like milestone, and those expire fast. Our The Portal codes page tracks the active ones.
