Rootcleaver

A great sword grown from a Mother Tree's root. Slow-grown, patient, unforgiving once drawn. P.ATK +85 makes Rootcleaver the hardest-hitting weapon in the game, and STR 37 is what it takes to hold one. Ignore DEF +15% comes with it, along with Max MP +50 and MP regeneration at +2.0 per second. Attack Speed -0.05x is a modest penalty for this much damage, considerably lighter than the -0.10x that Heartwood Maul and Scrap Sledge carry. That combination is unusual. Most weapons this heavy specialise in either raw damage or armour penetration. Rootcleaver takes the highest attack figure available and adds meaningful penetration on top, which leaves very little it handles badly. Recipe: 48 Wood, 12 Enchanted Wood, 12 Memory Sap, 12 Living Bark and 4 Fossilized Amber. Lycaros drops it at 4.22%, about one per 24 kills, and Grandfather Clock at 0.60%. Given the recipe wants four Fossilized Amber, farming Lycaros is genuinely competitive with building it, which was not true of the junk tier where the drop rates were four times better. Vendors buy it at 364 Tria. Rootcleaver needs nothing unlocked beyond STR 37. The real decision is against Briar Blade at STR 35. That weapon gives P.ATK +61, positive attack speed and a free off hand for a shield. Rootcleaver gives 24 more attack and armour penetration, and takes the shield away. For a Warrior who fights things that hit back, the shield is worth more than the difference. Carry both if you can, and draw the Rootcleaver for the fights where nothing else is getting through.
