Living Bark

Bark off a walking tree, and it still flinches when you cut it. Living Bark appears in every single forest recipe, which makes it the most consistently needed material in the tier after plain Wood. Grandfather Clock drops it at 22.11%, roughly one per four and a half kills. That is double the rate of any mid-tier material and the reason Living Bark rarely becomes a bottleneck despite appearing everywhere. Living Wardrobe follows at 7.74%, with Chair Treant and Teapot Toadstool at 0.75%. Vendors pay 20 Tria, twice what Briar Vine, Glowing Moss, Memory Sap, Enchanted Bark, Enchanted Wood and Mystic Essence return. Requirements scale with the recipe tier: 3 for Thornprick, 6 for Amber Mallet, Hummingbird Bloom and Briar Blade, 12 for Heartwood Maul, Forest Stag and Rootcleaver. Building the full set of seven forest weapons costs 57 Living Bark, which at 22.11% is around 258 Grandfather Clock kills. Compared with the Fossilized Amber the same set demands, that is comfortable. No level or class restriction, and no vendor stocks it. The flinching is worth taking literally in this tier. Chair Treant walks, Living Wardrobe walks, Grandfather Clock walks, and Living Bark is what comes off them. Whether that makes harvesting it a gathering activity or something else is a question the flavour text seems to be enjoying. Farm it as a side effect. Anyone clearing Grandfather Clock for Enchanted Wood or Memory Sap will hit their Living Bark target first, and there is no reason to farm it deliberately.
