Trashcan Lid

A plank round patched with scrap, nails included. Trashcan Lid is the shield of the junk tier and DEF +40 makes it the single most protective item in the game. Block +12% comes with it, ahead of Voidguard at +10% and Knotwood Round at +5%. Max HP +65 and MDEF +6 fill out the line. VIT 25 is the requirement. Set it against Voidguard from Breda at DEF +25, Block +10% and Max HP +40. The Lid adds fifteen defence, two percent block and twenty-five health, in a slot that costs no movement at all. For a Defender this is the clearest single upgrade in the tier. Lycaros drops it at 15.98%, roughly one per six kills. Buckethead Goblin manages 0.25%. The off hand remains the best value slot in the game for a vitality build, and this is why. Forty defence for nothing but the requirement to hold a one-handed weapon. Amber Mallet at VIT 35 and Tin Can Smasher at VIT 25 both keep that hand free. Scrap Sledge and Heartwood Maul do not, and giving up a Trashcan Lid is a real part of what those two-handers cost you. Trashcan Lid needs nothing unlocked beyond VIT 25. Farm it. At 15.98% this is a short session against a recipe that wants Junk Core, and there is no reason to spend cores on something Lycaros hands out this readily. Get the shield before anything else in the tier, because forty defence changes what you can survive more than any single armour piece will.
