Spore Vest

MDEF +23 is the highest magic defence on any chest piece in the game, and Max MP +50 the largest mana bonus. Spore Vest is the caster chest of the forest tier. DEF +22 alongside it, which is unusually high for cloth and actually beats Scrapmail from the junk tier. Max HP +120, HP regeneration at +2.0 per second and MP regeneration at +2.0. Move Speed -0.3, the lightest penalty of the three chest options here. Set against Patchwork Robe at MDEF +16, DEF +15 and Max MP +35, every column improves by a meaningful margin. The jump in physical defence is the surprise: cloth armour that stops weapons reasonably well is not something the earlier tiers offered. For an Enchanter this is close to the ideal chest piece. Fifty extra mana stacks with Forest Stag at Max MP +85 and Silver Chain at +50, and the MP regeneration at +2.0 adds to whatever the staff provides. The recipe uses a bulk base, 12 of a mid-tier forest material, 12 Living Bark and 1 Fossilized Amber. Spore Vest needs the caster requirement of the forest tier and nothing else unlocked. Where it still falls short is against dedicated physical damage. DEF +22 against Amber Carapace at +45 is half, and a caster caught in melee will notice. The answer remains distance, which is what Dewstep Slippers at Move Speed +1.4 are for. Worth building rather than hoping for the drop. Forest-tier armour drops at around 0.25% from its associated mob, roughly one per 400 kills, which is a very different situation from the junk tier where Lycaros handed pieces out at 15.98%.
