Voidguard
DEF +25 is the largest single defence number on anything Breda sells, armour included. Voidguard is the shield at VIT 15, costs 1750 Tria, and it changes what a vitality build can walk into. Block +10% doubles what Knotwood Round manages at +5%, and the rest scales with it: Max HP +40 against +20, MDEF +4 against +2, HP regeneration at +1.0 per second on both. There is no column where the cheaper shield competes. The comparison worth making is against body armour. Pot Armor at 1750 Tria gives DEF +18 for the chest slot and costs Move Speed -1.0. Voidguard gives DEF +25 in a slot that would otherwise be empty and costs no movement at all. For a Defender deciding where the next 1750 Tria goes, the shield is the better purchase. Tin Tortoise drops it at 7.74%, roughly one per thirteen kills. That is a short farm for a shield at this price, and worth doing if you are levelling anywhere near them. Breda pays 65 Tria to take it back. Voidguard needs nothing unlocked beyond VIT 15. The catch is the same catch every shield carries: you need a free off hand. Iron Mace at VIT 15 is one-handed and pairs with it directly, which is clearly the intended combination. Iron Hammer at VIT 17 is two-handed and locks you out entirely, so a build going that route should skip shields and put the Tria into armour instead. Take the shield and the one-handed mace over the two-hander. DEF +25 with a 10% block chance survives more content than the extra attack on a slow two-handed weapon kills, and the difference shows up most in exactly the fights you would otherwise lose.
